Peterborough Panthers Speedway

It's Funtime have been proud sponsors for Peterbrorough Panthers Speedway Team for several years.  Beginning in our first year of trading in the ReadyPower Era, we supplied regular bouncy castles free of charge for the children to use during the meeting.  There have recently been a few changes at the Peterborough Speedway Team as there are new owners now in place, but we are pleased to be able to continue to support the team.  So...

What is speedway?
 

Speedway is a motorcycle sport involving four riders competing over four laps of an oval track. The motorcycles are specialist machines which use only one gear and have NO BRAKES and racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt and loosely packed shale.  Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track the motorcycles reach speeds of up to 70 miles per hour (110 km/h).

The Peterborough Panthers established in 1971 have competed in various leagues over the year but are currently enjoying top flight racing in the British premiership.  This means that supporters get the privilege of seing world class racers and even world champions on a weekly basis.

Speedway - Where and When?

Speedway is a summer sport and runs from late March to early October with a league system culminating in Play Offs to decide the league title.  The Peterborough Panthers ride mostly on Sunday and Thursday nights (7:30pm) at their home, the East of England Showgrounds in Alwalton.

Speedway - How much does it cost?

Adult admission is £18 with children entering free with a paying adult.  Programmes are charges at £2 each.
